Places of Interest in East Cornwall

Launceston


Launceston is about 65 miles (75-100 minutes) North East of Pengoon Farm


Once the capital of the Duchy of Cornwall, this ancient market town dates from before the Norman conquest and boasts many attractions for visitors including:


Launceston Castle (Castel Lanstefan). A fine example of Norman construction work.

Jamaica Inn just off the A30 from Launceston to Bodmin at Bolventor. Made famous in the novel of the same name by Cornish author Daphne du Maurier.

Tintagel


Tintagel is about 60 miles (70-100 minutes) North East of Pengoon Farm


Situated on the wild Atlantic coast, this town is reputed to have been the home of King Arthur.

Among the attractions here are:

Tintagel Castle (English Heritage). Not in the best of conditions, but it is very old.

Tintagel Old Post Office (National Trust). Probably the oldest Post Office still in existence.

Liskeard


Liskeard is about 65 miles (75-100 minutes) North East of Pengoon Farm


Another market town, Liskeard is situated just off the A38 from Plymouth into Cornwall. Places of interest near Liskeard include:

The Quad and Kart Centre at Menheniot.

Dobwalls Adventure Park at Dobwalls - this started with one man's desire for a super train set and grew into one of the largest train sets in England.

Magnificent Music Machines at the Old Mill, St Keyne. This started from Paul Corin's collection of musical instruments.

In the Liskeard area the are many sites of ancient standing stones, each with their own legend.

Looe


Looe is about 75 miles (90-120 minutes) East North East of Pengoon Farm


A famous fishing port often associated with record size catches of sharks, although these do not happen so very often now.

Places of interest include:

The Banjo Pier named from it's shape when viewed from above.

Callington


Callington is about 75 miles (90-120 minutes) North East of Pengoon Farm


Situated in the centre of eastern Cornwall near to the Devon border. Places of interest in the area include:

Cothele House (National Trust)

Bude


Bude is about 80 miles (95-130 minutes) North East of Pengoon Farm


Situated in the very north of Cornwall near to the North Devon border. Places of interest in the area include:
